The Mavens Havens For the Modern Entrepreneur

I’m going to be dedicating a portion of this “little blog that could” to providing information outside of my own opinions and in addition to the perspectives of the entrepreneurs on my podcast.

IPOs and SPACs

To start, I’m adding a feed on IPOs and SPACs. 2020 was a record year for IPOs despite the calamitous (and as I’m writing this, still ongoing) pandemic, so I thought I’d include news related to upcoming IPOs and what’s generally trending in the IPO world. Also included links to NASDAQ and NYSE’s pages about IPO schedules so you can easily find what IPOs have recently occurred and which ones are coming up.

2020 was also a record year for SPACs, seeing what was once a rare form of taking a company public become more common than ever. For anyone who doesn’t know what a SPAC is, it stands for Special Purpose Acquisition Company. According to the CNBC article “SPACs are essentially ‘shell companies’ with no actual commercial operations but are created solely for raising capital through an initial public offering (IPO) to acquire an existing private company.” It’s just another way of taking a company public, but since SPACs are becoming more popular as a vehicle for doing so, thought I’d included news about them.

Economic Indicators

I’m going to continue to add new feeds and/or news sources as I discover different topics I think will be relevant to the worlds of entrepreneurship and investing. My next news feed will be on economic indicators. The purpose is to provide updates and data from reputable sources about things like stock market valuations and their implications.

For now, most prominently featured is a feed of news from Dr. Robert Shiller (not affiliated with him) and a feed of the cyclically adjusted price-to-earnings ratio. More information on this is in the feed.

Also included is a link to the Buffett Market Indicator, a comparison of U.S. stock market valuations against U.S. GDP.
